An independent initiative

Understanding what matters to people, helping them understand what matters to them, and turn it into action.

Tilefu explores people’s needs and interests, helps people reflect on what matters to them, and looks for practical interventions that address connected problems.

01 / UNDERSTANDING

Start with what matters to people.

We all have things we would like to change, but knowing where to start is not always easy.

We may lack the time, knowledge, or resources to fully understand a problem or figure out what we can do about it. Tilefu aims to better understand what matters to people while helping them explore their own needs, interests, and the changes they would like to see.

People's questions, choices, behaviour, and the information they seek can offer clues about what they care about. These patterns are starting points for exploration, not assumptions about what any individual thinks or wants.

02 / FROM UNDERSTANDING TO ACTION

Look beyond individual problems.

Problems are often approached separately, even when they may be connected.

01

Understand people's needs

We explore people's interests, questions, and everyday behaviour to identify patterns and better understand what they would like to change.

02

Explore connections

We look at how seemingly separate problems relate to one another and where addressing those connections could lead to better solutions.

Develop practical interventions

We seek ways to address several connected problems at once, making thoughtful use of existing knowledge, resources, and efforts.

03 / RESEARCH

Understand needs in context.

People do not always express their needs directly. Their interests, questions, choices, and everyday behaviour can provide clues about what they value and what they would like to change.

Tilefu aims to combine quantitative and qualitative research to investigate these patterns. Search behaviour, SEO research, SEA experiments, public data, and direct engagement can help explore emerging interests and identify questions that deserve further attention.

These signals are not definitive answers. They are starting points for investigation, to be checked against people's own experiences and further research.

04 / PRACTICAL CHANGE

Make it easier to contribute.

People should not need to have all the answers, extensive resources, or the time to solve a problem on their own before they can contribute to change.

Tilefu aims to identify opportunities, make connections, and explore how existing knowledge, resources, and efforts can be put to better use. Ideas should be assessed by their outcomes, and approaches adjusted when they do not work as intended.

05 / PERSPECTIVES

Different perspectives. Practical questions.

People can want things to improve without agreeing on the causes of a problem or the best way to address it.

Tilefu aims to make room for people with different experiences and perspectives. We focus on understanding needs, exploring connections, and considering practical ways forward.

Being open to different perspectives does not mean assuming every solution is equally effective. It means examining ideas critically and considering their consequences.
